The Palos Verdes Peninsula is 15 miles south of the Los Angeles Airport and about 24 miles south from downtown Los Angeles, CA. It is one of the few areas within Los Angeles County which has preserved a uniquely gentle and rural atmosphere with spacious houses set on large lots with view of the city vista, ocean, and surrounding rolling hills. One of the most spectacular views is known as the Queen's Necklace from Palos Verdes Estates which comprises the coast from Redondo Beach up through Santa Monica and out to Malibu. The Peninsula is sometimes referred to as "the Hill" by local residents. It is the highest point of the southern Los Angeles basin known as the "South Bay" and from the city side of the Hill the downtown Los Angeles skyline is visible and the Pacific Ocean and Catalina Island can be seen on the other side. Palos Verdes real estate has become one of the most choice - and expensive - in all of Los Angeles County with some property pricess exceeding $10,000,000 for a home and very few homes available for less than $1,000,000. The average price of a home on the Hill is $1,600,000 in 2005. The ocean city along the coast with unmatched vistas of the Pacific is Palos Verdes Estates. Many homes there are reminiscent of the French Riviera or Mediteranean Spain complete with white walls and red tile roofs. Along Paseo Del Mar, the street closest to the Ocean are the some of the most magnificent mansions to be found anywhere on the Pacific Coast. Palos Verdes Estates has also been referred to by some as "Beverly Hills By The Sea." |
For a true rural ranch atmosphere the ideal city is Rolling Hills which is a fully gated incorporated city with vast expanses of secluded and private lush rolling green hills reminiscent of the way California used to be in the days of the Spanish Land Grants. Rolling Hills Estates has a similar flavor but is an open city with wide thoroughfares and riding trails set with lovely ranch style homes with large lots and plentiful trees. Rancho Palos Verdes offers a mix of both rural and ocean views and is the largest city on the Hill. The weather on the Palos Verdes Peninsula is among the most moderate and ideal to be found anywhere in the world and very similar to the French Riviera. Temperatures average 70 degrees throughout the year with cool westerly sea breezes which keep the air on the entire Palos Verdes Peninsula which juts out into the ocean among the cleanest and freshest in all of Los Angeles County. Some fog comes in but mostly during June and July with the rest of the year being usually clear and delightful. There are 2 private and 2 public golf courses on the Hill. The oldest private club is the Palos Verdes Country Club located in Palos Verdes Estates, CA. The other private country club is the Rolling Hills Country Club located in Rolling Hills Estates, CA. The 2 publicly accessible golf courses located in Rancho Palos Verdes are the Los Verdes Golf Course located at 7000 W Los Verdes Dr, Rancho Palos Verdes, CA 90275 and the Ocean Trails Golf Club located at One Ocean Trails Dr, Rancho Palos Verdes, CA 90275. |
